アーユルヴェーダ科学によると、シラジットは、岩の山脈、特にヒマラヤ山脈から形成されます。岩山脈の様々なミネラルが継続的に陽光線によって過熱されると、液化し、樹脂やガムのような滲出液が生成されますが、これを収集して精製します。このような滲出物は、シラジット、またはミネラルピッチとも呼ばれ、通常はインドとネパールの間のヒマラヤ山脈から集められます。
